Still others may be a bit shy and have trouble meeting new people in person.
Students today are busier than ever, especially with more of them having to work to help pay for tuition.
“The blitz was a very unique way to get unthreatening practice for interviews,” says Sean Coen, a senior business management major.
“The fast-paced nature didn’t allow us to get too rattled about a stupid response to a question, and it allowed us to hear a variety of questions that will come up in an interview.
Students will learn how to perfect "pitching" him or herself, and learn how to make a good first impression. Follow-up Conversations Speed networking, it turns out, is similar to speed dating, where potential mates meet in a low-pressure environment to chat for a few minutes before rotating to the next seat.
Alumni will talk about their post-college job experience and possible employer or industry contacts. You'll have a chance to mix and mingle even more after the networking portion during the wine and dessert reception. The difference is that in speed dating your goal is to narrow down the playing field of possible matches, while the goal of speed networking is simply to add to your network.
Andy Campbell, assistant professor of business management, came up with the idea for the event, which is based off a speed dating model.
